I’ve recently realized that things don’t get more or less complicated than finding ways to keep yourself happy. Depending on the kind of person you are, that may be an ongoing conversation with your therapist. But if you can free yourself from fear of failure— unless you choose to fail yourself— it can be really empowering.
Winter is coming and the days are getting shorter and colder. But lately I’ve been doing a lot better at keeping things organized and healthy at home, and I’ve been amazed at what a difference it’s made in my daily life, especially with my daughter. Instead of feeling behind all day long and instead of being on edge and cranky when things don’t run smoothly (as they never do), I’ve been getting ahead by - surprise - taking care of myself first. It’s been really nice. So, naturally, I thought I’d share a few tips and ask you to feel free to add more.
I joined a gym and got a fitness assessment done two days ago. Man I am out of shape! But behind that sinking feeling is a suspicion that it’s all geared so that I would sign up for this trainer series. I politely refused the 20-something year old trainer who looked like she just graduated from high school. Am I ready for California? I ended up getting the 3-yr membership. :P
… is a wonderful thing. Made salad dressing with truffle oil and balsamic vinegar last night, over lettuce, grilled asparagus, and mushroom filled ravioli. Awesomeness…
I think I could do this…? Sous vide cooking has been turned into DIY, and I particularly like this quote from the NPR article: "It slides across your mouth like a spoonful of custard," she says. "It’s such a bright flavor; it’s like a bright summer day. It’s eating summer." Sounds awesome!
